The day was bitter cold as the wind nipped at the Quarantine streets. Not to many people were out today except for the soldiers who wandered the streets with keen eyes looking for any sort of trouble, survivors who needed to pick up their rations and those who were looking for something to do in order to stay occupied on such a slow day. Kirsten slowly shuffled her feet across the rugged roads of uptown. Her brown eyes briefly glancing up from the ground just to make sure she wasn't going to run into any soldiers, civilians or trash that may lay in her path.
With a smooth, relaxed motion the twenty-one year old removed her hands from her black military styled jacket's pockets and tugged the hood over her head. Then with the same relaxed motion she put her hands back in warm jacket pockets. Short hair always sucked during the colder months due to the lack of coverage over her ears and neck. With the chilly wind, Kirsten's face, neck and ears had grown numb with the cold. Stay warm. Always a priority because getting sick could mean the difference in life or death. Not just because sickness had ways of getting out of control but in her case, she wouldn't be able to carry out any scavenging missions which in the end meant she'd be lacking in goods to bargain with on the black market.
For a brief second Kirsten stopped and looked toward the sky. Dark clouds drifted casually along and a storm off in the distance was releasing its load on whatever lay under it. Probably just another empty town. It would be wonderful to have rain because then the streets would be a bit cleaner for a short time anyways, and just the smell of fresh rainfall was always beautiful. Then she sighed heavily before continuing down the street. She was heading down town today. Hopefully she could find some reason to get out of the Quarantine. Maybe there was a certain supply needed that would take her across the states, keep her away for several months instead of just a couple of days. She was growing tired of scavenging the near areas and wanted to take her travels further just to see if she could with stand such a challenge.
